Nicholas Hlobo
These weird and wonderful sculptures are made by Nicholas Hlobo, an amazing young talent. He uses all kinds of materials like ribbon, rubber, guaze and leather to create drawings and sculptures that portray his experience of life in post-apartheid South Africa.
Everything about his artworks are symbolic, materials as well as the process of making it. The rubber for example symbolises masculinity and the colourful ribbon holding it all together symbolises femininity. Wow, art is so amazing and when it is so symbolic and deep you [as the outsider] can actually experience and share the artist's feelings. He has had a number of solo exhibitions and his work is featured on www.michaelstevenson.com Born in Cape Town, he now lives in Johannesburg and won the Standard Bank young artist Award for Visual arts in 2009.
